Healthy Families Rotorua presented a Maramataka wānanga on Sunday 6th August 2017 at Tarewa Pounamu (Taharangi) Marae in Rotorua.
Over 80 people attended the wānanga which hosted a range of speakers. The one day event aimed to connect experts with the community to share their knowledge of Maramataka and how it can influence our wai, kai and rongoa system. The wānanga signalled the start of a revival in knowledge and usage by the Rotorua community.
Maramataka is the Māori lunar calendar, which is a guide for reading the various phases of the moon and its influence on the natural environment and therefore all aspects of life. By understanding the Maramataka and living according to the natural rhythms and cycles of our environment, we can be more productive and successful in all aspects of life.
This event was proudly supported by Te Puni Kokiri, Te Roopu a iwi o Te Arawa, Te Arawa Whanau Ora, and Ka Pai Kai Rotorua in collaboration with Healthy Families Rotorua.
Videos of the speakers are now available to watch on the Healthy Families Rotorua YouTube Channel!
